Unused or Expired Medication 

The Rockton Police Department maintains a secured medicine disposal box for unused and expired medications. Located in the vestibule of the Rockton Village Hall, 110 E. Main Street in Rockton, the 24 hour secured drop box can be accessed at any time, for your convenience.

 

Properly disposing of unused medicines is important to prevent abuse or poisoningStoring unused medicines in the home poses safety and health threats. Prescription drug abuse is a growing problem, especially among teens. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse (December 2014), prescription and over-the-counter drug abuse is 2nd, only to marijuana use.

 

Most commonly abused prescription drugs. If unused or unwanted, these are important drugs to remove from your home. Painkillers: Vicodin, Tylenol with codeine, OxyContin, Percocet. Depressants: Xanax, Valium, Nembutal. Stimulants: Adderall, Ritalin, Concerta.

 

Protect the environment. Medicines flushed down the drain or disposed of in the trash can contaminate bodies of water, harm wildlife and end up in drinking water supplies, not to mention the possibility of them getting into the wrong hands!

 

Accepted items:

 

Prescription drugs keep in the original container with your name and address blacked out. The name of the prescription drug should be visible. Liquids must be in its original container, and placed inside a secured bag to prevent leakage and contamination of other items.

 

Over-the-counter medicines – if not in the original container, medicines can be placed in a quart sized zip-lock freezer bag. Liquids must be secured in its original container, and placed inside a secured bag to prevent leakage and contamination of other items.

 

ABSOLUTELY NO NEEDLES, SHARPS, SYRINGES, THERMOMETERS, BANDAGES, GLUCOSE METERS, MEDICAL TAPE, OR MEDICAL SUPPLIES ARE ACCEPTED.
