Community Promotions Coordinator Job Description

SUMMARY

The Community Promotions Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and managing external communications and Promotions with Rockton stakeholders with a particular emphasis on Downtown Rockton business development, marketing/branding activities, and special events. 

 RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. DOWNTOWN ROCKTON - Act as a liaison to the Downtown Rockton business community and volunteers by working closely with the Downtown Rockton business and property owners as well as Village advisory boards and support organizations such as the regional tourism agencies (GoRockford and Visit Beloit), Stateline Chamber of Commerce and Elev815.

 

  1. PUBLIC OUTREACH - Respond to general inquiries and questions from business owners, potential participants and general citizenry concerning upcoming events or activities.  Monitor the effectiveness of promotional activities.

 

  1. ATTENDANCE AT MEETINGS - Attend and participate when needed in meetings of the Board of Trustees, Downtown Rockton, and other organization’s planning events.

 

  1. COMMUNITY PROMOTIONS – Direct retail promotions, special events, traffic building activities and image improvement.  Monitor community and consumer perceptions of the downtown and seek to reverse negative attitudes and build on positive ones.  Monitor the effectiveness of the promotional programs on an ongoing basis.

 

5.         VOLUNTEER RECRUITMENT & ASSISTANCE –Build astrong network of volunteers to help implement promotional programs and establish good working relationships with community organizers.

 

  1. SPECIAL ASSIGNMENTS – Implementation of Rockton’s Downtown Streetscape Plan, and creation of a downtown business association modeled after the four-point Main Street America approach.  Serve as Market Manager for the River Market.

 

  1. INTERNAL COMMUNICATION – Provide direction to Village departments for event set up and maintenance of the downtown district.

 

The responsibilities described above represent the primary responsibilities of the job.  Other responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor as warranted by business needs.  The incumbent is expected to do all assigned responsibilities.


KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION

Minimum high school education with at least 2 years of knowledge or experience in promotions, retailing, marketing, advertising, festival development or related field is desirable.  Valid driver’s license.  Individual must possess oral and written communication skills and have excellent organizational skills while providing first-rate customer service.

EXPERIENCE:

General experience with retail promotions, special events, visitor building activities, working with groups and individuals to create events to generate traffic.

TOOLS & EQUIPMENT

Typical office equipment including personal computers, cell phone, printer, copier, office equipment.

ROUTINE CONTACTS

Department personnel, Mayor, Board of Trustees, appointed officials, Village administrator and other Village personnel, as well as the general public, business leaders and the community.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Typical office environment plus working outdoors in all types of weather.
